First release of RetroCade Synth Windows Installer!

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

We just put the first version of the Windows installer for RetroCade Synth in the download area. This new installer groups all RetroCade resources together and makes them easily accessible from the Start menu.

RetroCade Installer

The RetroCade Synth is made by Gadget Factory and was started on Kickstarter:
Welcome to the R-R-R-R-RetroCade Synth from Gadget Factory.  This exciting new hardware synthesizer is built on Gadget Factory’s own Papilio platform, and is designed with both hardware hackers and musicians in mind.  Musicians will love the ease of use and extreme retro glitchiness that the Retrocade has to offer. Hackers will love that it is open-source, and is designed to be HACKED.  Either way, you’re in luck.  You will find no better, more flexible synthesizer at this price point anywhere else!

The RetroCade Synth boasts the capability to play the built-in Commodore 64 SID chip, the Yamaha YM-2149 chip, .mod files, and MIDI files – all at the same time! The RetroCade Synth can be played via any external MIDI control interface or via your favorite audio/ sequencing software. We have built a custom VST software dashboard which gives you visual control over all the various parameters the synth has to offer.

Requirements:
*You must have SynthMaker installed to run the Dashboard. The free version can be downloaded from: http://www.synthmaker.co.uk/

Papilio Programmer 1.6 Released

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Version 1.6 of the Papilio Programmer is officially available for download. The new release fixes the bug causing long SPI Flash programming issues, adds improvements to the menu options, and includes a Windows Installer. A new Quickstart Guide with installation videos is also being released at Papilio.cc.

Changes:

  • SPI Flash programming takes 3-5 seconds now instead of minutes.
  • Windows installer takes care of everything automatically
    • Drivers installed
    • File associations made
    • Right click context menus made
    • Butterfly Icon associated with bit files
  • Drivers updated:
    • Only one serial port shows up now, the JTAG port is no longer associated with a COM port. This is less confusing since only one serial port will show up for the Papilio board now.
    • USB devices show up as Papilio USB devices now.
  • Papilio Programmer script improvements:
    • Menu makes more sense now, cancel is not used for SPI programming anymore.
    • SPI programming section automatically identifies the type of chip being programmed.
    • Favorites folder added

Alvaro has released Alpha 4 of the ZPUino.

Alpha 4 adds support for the Papilio One 500K board.

Alvaro has put out a call for any demo requests that people would like to see for the ZPUino on the Papilio One. Don’t miss this chance to request something that you’ve been wanting to see done.

The ZPUino project makes a powerful, 32-bit, 100Mhz, ZPU processor available for the Papilio hardware. The best part is that your sketches will still run on the ZPUino!
